Rock N Run for Africa

Why would one of New Jersey’s largest churches “cancel” its Sunday services and ask people to run a 5k race instead? To help bring clean drinking water to families in Africa!

On Sunday September 6th over 1,200 people participated in Rock and Run for Africa hosted by Liquid Church in Morristown. This event was the next step in Liquid's ongoing campaign to help bring clean drinking water to the poorest of the poor.

One in 6 people in the world don’t have access to clean drinking water. Contaminated water and lack of basic sanitation cause 80% of all sickness and disease worldwide, killing more people every year than all forms of violence, including war.

“We’re sick of the sickness in Africa,” said Senior Pastor Tim Lucas. “We want to be part of the solution. Our hope is to bring one fresh water well a week to families in Ethiopia in 2010. Rock and Run for Africa is all about raising resources and awareness of the current water crisis. You don’t have to ‘get religion’ to have a heart – anyone who wants to help serve the world’s poorest is welcome to join the team!”

By the end of the day, the event had raised over $75,000. Over a third of the people who participated in this event don't even attend Liquid Church, showing the willingness among community members to get behind a worthwhile cause.

Liquid Church plans to host more upcoming events like Rock and Run for Africa to help raise awareness and resources for the water crisis. For more information on the church and clean water campaign, drop by LiquidChurch.com.
